Athena Cabin

Jamal stood on the doorstep of the Athena cabin, an elegant, silver building. He looked up and saw a swooping owl sculpted into the doorframe, intricate and beautifully carved. Looking inside Jamal saw that the inside had a
workshop and library, with bunk beds pushed up against the wall The 'library' section was a wall filled with bookshelves and hundreds of thick tomes and maps hanging around the walls alongside armor and blueprints. The 'workshop' was filled with tables and work benches and
cupboards filled with materials to build things. There were also some 3-D models of buildings. The cabin was also filled with SMART boards and other things that you usually see in classrooms. Jamal stared at it all in disbelief that he got to live in this amazing place.

As he stared around the room, Jamal watched as a girl around his age got up from her bunk and walked towards him. "Hi! I'm Katrina, your cabin counselor,"she said,"you're Jamal, right?" Jamal contemplated his response, should he be snarky or funny or rude? What kind of role would keep people from getting to close to him? But then Jamal saw her eyes and somehow knew she wouldn't be fooled like all those people he had met before. He could tell she was smart, maybe smarter than him, and so he decided to be himself, to an extent. Knowledge was power after all so he wouldn't show her all he was capable of. " Yes, I'm Jamal"

Jamal watched as Katrina evaluated the few belongings he had managed to keep with him since his father had died.

"That's all you've got for now? Katrina asked "Or you've left
some at the infirmary - umm... it's your first day at camp or
you've been here for a few days but in a coma?"
" I've been here a few days but I've been unconscious for most of the time" Jamal replied " getting chased by monsters does that to me. This is all I have left, i dropped other things on the way back but i don't have anything to fight monsters with so i just left them"

"I'm 14," Jamal stated, " And I'd love to see the armory." Seeing all the cool weaponry people carried around at camp was cool but gettting his own weapon would be a dream come true. Also he liked the idea of learning to maim monsters instead of learning how to narrowly avoid getting maimed

" Hey... kat did you see Angela?... uh " Ben said as he walked by. Ben went to the new boy that he had never saw before. " Hello  I'm Ben, Ben kyle . Nice to meet you" Ben smiled as he looked at the boy

"Hi Ben," Jamal said. "Nice to meet you" and surprisingly Jamal did find it nice to meet him. Jamal had never had a brother before but it seemed to him that it would probably be cool. Still he tried to remain aloof just in case brothers were actually as everyone always said.

It sseemed that Jamal would be able to get along with the others here, she thought with relief.   'Anyway, we're going to the armory. So see you later, ' she said, walking out from the cabin.

Jamal followed Katrina out of the Athena Cabin to the armory
